Personal Childhood Web
The five people that influenced my life as a child are my mom, my dad, my sister, my aunt and my friend.
First is my mom: Her name is Kathleen but everyone has always called her "Kat." My mom has been there for me all of my life. She is my strength! She loved (still loves!) me unconditionally. My mom always took such great care of her family. I grew up in a poor home but I never even knew that until my early teens! Life was about love and caring and nurturing. It was not about material things.
Next was my dad: My dad's name is Oliver. Dad was always very loving. He could never disciplince his girls. If I ever wanted anything, all I had to do was ask dad! He could never say no! lol He still tells me "Rhonda you better watch it or I will spank you AGAIN!" The joke is "dad you have to spank me for a FIRST time before you can spank me "again!" My dad is a very smart and self-educated man. I don't think there is anything he can't do!
Next would be my sister Linda. She is three years older than I am and has always been a little "mother" to me. We have been close our entire lives. My parents worked on the farm and in the fields so Linda and I would go with them but stayed somewhere out of the way and safe. Linda protected me! I could always count on her to be there for me physically and emotionally. We played together, laughed together and cried together.
Next would me by aunt Dianne. Dianne is the same age as my sister Linda! So she has always been more like a cousin than an aunt! Dianne was always honest with me. It didn't matter what I would ask her she ALWAYS told me the truth. A lot of times family members would "lie" to me to protect me. They thought because I was young I didn't need to know the truth. It is funny how even as a young child I always knew when an adult lied to me! So if I wanted to REALLY know the truth, I would go to Dianne! She is my mother's sister so we spent a lot of time together growing up. A lot of my "firsts" happened with Dianne! I am not proud today of all of the things we "tried" or got into but she always let me be who I wanted to be. She loved me for me!
And finally there is my best friend in the entire world JANINE! Janine moved to my school when we both were in the 6th grade. We both also attended the same church! So we did spend a lot of time together! Janine was my friend period! She loved me for me. I didn't have to pretend around her. I could totally be myself and she liked me! Janine and I have remained friends ALL OF THESE YEARS!! She is totally my rock! She has always been very supportive in anything and everything I do. There is NOTHING in this world that I would not do for her! She is a true and dear friend. We have shared so many memories together. Not all good memories but memories! That's because in all of my troubles and sorrows she was there for me. We went to elementary school and high school together. Then several years later we both went to college together! Now we are STILL going to school together! And after all of these years we are finally working together! We teach at the same school. What an awesome, awesome person and friend she is!
These people are still very much a part of my life today. Each person is special and important to me. My life would not be the same without them. Thanks to all of these people for the support, encouragement and love! I love you all!
